Pomeranian

Breed Information

Pomeranians are one of the smallest dog breeds in the world. This toy dog has a short and straight muzzle, very small and erect ears, a large ruff around the neck, dark, almond-shaped eyes, a black nose, and a heavily plumed tail that lies flat on its back.

SIZE

This small dog stands around 18-28 cm in height and weighs about 1.5-3 kg. Because of their size, they are perfect for indoor living.

COAT

The Pomeranian has a double coat that consists of a long and coarse undercoat and a soft and fluffy outer coat. Their coats come in all different colours. The female Pomeranian sheds her coat when she is either in heat or after giving birth. The male Pomeranian, on the other hand, sheds at least once a year.

CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT

Pomeranians are lively, alert, clever, eager to learn, willful and headstrong. They are often considered as little dogs with big personalities, making them great show dogs. They bark at anything out of the ordinary and can be trained as excellent guard dogs.

CARE

Bathing a Pomeranian should only be done when needed, but their coat requires brushing several times a week. Their eyes and ears should be cleaned daily for these areas are prone to infection.

TRAINING

Pomeranians should be trained not to bark while they are still young. Due to their stubborn nature, it must be established early on that you are the boss. It is also important to train them not to linger underfoot because they may get stepped on and injured.

ACTIVITY

This dog enjoys indoor activities, daily walks, and playing around. These exercises are enough to keep them busy and preoccupied.
