Breed InformationThe Lakeland Terrier has a small, square-built frame covered in a bristly, wiry coat. They have a long, narrow head, small, dark eyes, V-shaped ears that bend forward, a strong neck that slopes down to a deep chests, a short back and a medium-length tails that points straight up. SIZE This dog stands an average height of about 37 cm and weighs around 6-8 kg. They are adaptable to living in a small area. COAT This dog has a double coat that consists of a wiry outer coat providing weatherproofing and a softer and finer inner coat that provides warmth. Possible coat colors include tan, mahogany, black, gray, liver, blue and tan and black. They shed lightly. CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT The Lakeland Terrier is an intelligent, energetic and determined dog that loves nothing more than to run, play, swim and dig outdoors. They have the propensity to be independent and stubborn, but are normally eager to please. Although these dogs can be reserved around strangers, they get along well with children and other dogs. Early socialization is important so that they will get along with other household pets. This breed can be an excellent watchdog. CARE This dog has minimal grooming needs. In order to keep their coat in great condition, brush the coat every two or three days. Two or three times a year the dead hair must be removed by plucking or stripping - this can be done at your local grooming salon. TRAINING This dog does best with positive training methods, including many opportunities for socialization. They are easy to train and learn fairly quickly. ACTIVITY This dog loves the outdoors and needs time and space to run and romp. They do not need intensive exercise but can be an excellent dog for trials and competitions.
