Breed InformationThe Irish Terrier has an elegant, medium-sized frame that is covered in a dense, curly coat. They have a broad, flat head, a long, full muzzle, small dark eyes, a long and muscular neck that slopes down to a deep chest, and a tail that is carried high. SIZE This dog stands at a height of about 35-45 cm and weighs around 10-13 kg. They will be happy to live where there is space to run and play. COAT This dog has a double coat composed of an outer coat that is straight and wiry in texture and an inner coat that is quite dense, making the skin under it invisible. The coat can be coloured golden red, red wheaten, or wheaten, sometimes with a small patch on the chest. CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT This dog bonds very closely to its family and is full of love and spirit. They are watchful, protective, and playful and have a natural courage that makes them an excellent watchdog. They have the tendency to fight with other dogs and need to be taught not to chase other pets from a young age. They are friendly towards people and love to play with children. CARE The coat must be stripped once a year, but the dog should not be bathed too often. Clean the ears regularly and trim the nails before they get too long. TRAINING The Irish Terrier is smart and highly trainable but can also be somewhat stubborn and wilful. It is best to train and socialize firmly from an early age to avoid instances of biting and snapping. ACTIVITY This breed loves to run and play whenever they can. They need plenty of exercise in the form of long walks, running and playing around.
