Breed Information
The French Bulldog looks tough on the outside but is in fact very soft and gentle. They look quite similar to a Pug with a round head, flat and wide muzzle, stumpy legs and short tail. Their distinctive feature is their bat-like ears. They are a sturdy and compact small dog with a short, smooth coat.
SIZE
The French Bulldog stands at about 30cm high with an average weight of between 11 and 12.5kg. They are well-suited for any living area, and will be happiest beside their owner on the couch.
COAT
The French Bulldog's coat is short, fine, smooth to the touch and sheds very lightly. Coat colours include brindle, fawn, and pied (mostly white).
CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT
The French Bulldog is a vivacious, deeply affectionate, intelligent, and sensitive dog. They are alert, energetic, playful and friendly towards children and other dogs. This breed is full of courage, yet possesses clown like qualities.
CARE
French Bulldogs have minimal grooming requirements. They shed minimally but when they do, a rubber brush must be used to take away the dead hair. It is recommended that you only bathe your French Bulldog once a month so as not to dry out their skin. Special care and attention should be given to the face because this area is susceptible to bacteria and infections. Your breeder will provide you with information.
TRAINING
It is quite challenging to train this breed because they can be stubborn and headstrong. They do not enjoy taking orders and are easily distracted from doing the task at hand. As such, they require a patient but firm trainer who will ensure that they do what they are asked to do.
ACTIVITY
This dog needs simple daily exercise to keep fit and healthy. Short walks and indoor play are enough to meet their exercise needs. Make sure that they do not exercise in extremely hot weather because they are prone to heatstroke. Care must be take around swimming pools as this breed is not a strong swimmer.
