Breed InformationChinese Crested dogs are small, active and graceful, and possess one of two hair types. The first has a smooth hairless body, but has hair on feet, head and tail. The second variety are referred to as Powder Puff and are covered with a soft veil of hair. This breed is medium to fine boned and has a very happy temperament. A single litter can produce both Hairless and Powder Puff puppies. SIZE Chinese Crested have a height of between 23 and 33 cms. Their weight can vary considerable but should not exceed 5.5 kg. They are the perfect size to curl up on your lap, and will do so at any given opportunity! COAT The Chinese Crested have no large patches of hair anywhere on the body. There skin is find grained, smooth and warm to the touch. In Powder Puffs the coat consists of an undercoat with soft veil of long hair. Chinese crested can be born any colour or combination of colours. Chinese Crested are not known to shed, and do not possess a doggy odour. CHARACTER & TEMPERAMENT The Chinese Crested is a graceful dog with a happy and confident demeanor. This breed can sometimes shy of strangers but are never snappy or aggressive. The Chinese Crested are very human oriented and will often bond to one person in particular. They are very affectionate and are definitely not a breed to be left outside on their own. CARE The hairless Crested requires care not overly different to that of humans. This fair skinned dog requires protection from the sun by using sunscreen, regular moisturizing, and exfoliating occasionally to clear the skin of blackheads. The Powder Puff coat needs regular attention to maintain the beauty of the double veil coat, although as an alternative they can also be clipped. An unusual characteristic of this breed is that they are capable of curling their feet to hold and grip objects. As a result, secure fencing is a must to keep in any escape artists who also have speed and agility on their side. TRAINING Chinese Crested respond well to training which when teamed with their fastidious cleanliness makes them an ideal house dog. ACTIVITY Exercise requirements are minimal so a daily walk will suffice. Walking your dog every day will not only improve their physical health, but will provide mental stimulation to dogs who spend their day largely inside. Your Chinese Crested will very much enjoy being taken to a wide open space such as an oval as they can run like the wind and will love a good work out.
