Buying Info

There is a very serious side of using our fabulous resource. The two most important elements to be aware of are as follows:

Number One - Be aware of potential internet fraud

Number Two- Be a responsible dog owner

Please read the below information carefully;

How to be aware of potential internet fraud

Check the integrity of the seller

When you are browsing Puppy and Breeder listings on our site, look for the "Breeder ID Verified" symbol. This means that we have personally verified this member's identity and have confirmed they are a registered breeder with their state canine council.

Keeping the above in mind, internet fraud is an unfortunate reality, so we've added the following information as additional protection for you when dealing with sellers online. Follow our simple guidelines below, and purchase your puppy with confidence!

How to protect yourself when buying online:

  1. Check the integrity of the seller
    • Although the initial contact you have with a breeder might be by email, it is important that email is not the only form of contact used. Once the breeder has responded to your initial enquiry and you have decided you wish to purchase one of their puppies, it is extremely important that you phone the breeder and speak to them personally. If their phone number is not published on their profile, request their phone number by email.
  2. Do not send money via Western Union
    • DO NOT send money through Western Union under any circumstances. There is no way to protect the funds in case a problem of fraud arises.
  3. Do not send money to another country or pay using foreign currency
    • Every puppy for sale on PuppiesForSale.com.au clearly displays the location of the breeder. If the breeder asks that you send money to another country, or even a different state to what is listed on their profile, do not make any further contact with this person, and report them to PuppiesForSale.com.au
    • All listings displayed on our site are from Australian breeders and Australian sellers so there is absolutely no reason why anyone should request to be paid in US dollars or any other foreign currency. If you find a breeder requesting payment in a currency other than the Australian dollar do not make any further contact with this person, and report them to PuppiesForSale.com.au
  4. Request additional photos from the breeder
    • Requesting additional photos of the puppy you are interested in is a simple way to ensure the integrity of the seller. You can even request that a specific item be in the photo as well, for example a can of coke or something of the sort. If the breeder refuses to send the requested photos or state their camera is broken and are unable to send additional photos, discontinue the sale.
  5. Be a responsible dog owner

Before deciding to purchase your puppy it is extremely important that you think long and hard about the implications of owning a pet.

The service we provide is designed as a more responsible alternative to selling pets in pet shops, as we believe our site visitors are actively seeking a puppy suitable for their lifestyle rather than purchasing on a whim in a store.

We provide the information about each and every breed to help educate our visitors about the exercise, grooming and lifestyle requirements of the puppies listed

Once you have identified the puppy you would like to make your own, we urge you to ask yourself the following questions:

    • How much space does this breed require? Can I provide this space?
    • What level of exercise will this breed require?
    • What type of lifestyle does this breed require?
    • What are the grooming requirements of this breed?
    • What are the dietary requirements of this breed?
    • Does my rental property or body corporate allow dogs?

It is a sad truth that there are immoral people who treat dogs as production machines - and because they care little about the resulting animals, these pups often have health and behaviour problems. PuppiesForSale.com.au is STRONGLY against Puppy Farms and we urge our visitors looking to purchase a puppy from a breeder listed on our site to verify the integrity of the breeder.

You can start by asking the breeder the following questions:

    • Can I meet the puppy's mother and father?
    • If the breeder is interstate, does the Breeder have pictures available of both the parents?
    • May I see / visit where the puppies are raised?
    • What personality traits should I be informed about?
    • At what age can the puppy go to it's new home? (8 weeks old MINIMUM)
    • Are there any common health problems associated with this breed?
    • How many litters of puppies do you have per year?
    • What happens to your retired breeding dogs?
    • How many different breeds of puppies do you sell?
    • What is the average lifespan of the dogs?
    • What type of food do you feed your dogs?
    • Are your puppies and their parents fully immunized?
    • Are the puppies socialized at all before leaving for their new home, how?
    • Have the puppies had any interaction with children?
    • Do the puppies have any type of training prior to being sent to their new home?
    • Are you a member of any breeder associations or clubs? Why or why not?
    • Can you supply references or testimonials?
    • Do you offer a health guarantee with your puppies?
    • Do you require all puppies purchased from you to be desexed?

Most breeders will be all too happy to answer your questions in regards to the puppy you are interested in, and will be equally concerned about the new owner they are releasing their puppy to.

Both you and the breeder need to feel comfortable with each other to ensure the puppy has been looked after well, and will be in the future.
